Welcome to the MMHCA Education and Outreach Committee!

The Michigan Mental Health Counselors Association (MMHCA) is committed to empowering mental health professionals across Michigan. Our newly established Education and Outreach Committee is dedicated to supporting counselors at every stage of their career journey, from aspiring professionals to seasoned experts, by providing vital resources, educational opportunities, and advocacy support.

Our Mission

The Education and Outreach Committee aims to foster growth, learning, and community among Michigan’s counseling professionals. We believe in the power of informed, well-supported counselors to make a meaningful impact on the mental health of Michiganders. Our mission is to provide educational resources, advocacy, and outreach to strengthen the counseling profession and ensure it continues to thrive and evolve within the state.

Monthly Medicare Masterclass Q&A with Dr. Elizabeth M. Teklinski
  • "Ask Me Anything: Medicare Masterclass" is a monthly interactive Q&A session with Dr. Elizabeth M. Teklinski, MMHCA's Chair of Education and Outreach. This masterclass is designed to help counselors navigate the complexities of Medicare, including 'Incident To' billing practices, compliance requirements, and recent updates to Medicare policy affecting licensed counselors.

Professional Development Workshops
  • We offer workshops on a variety of practical and essential topics, from guerrilla marketing strategies for private practice to understanding labor laws and compliance essentials. These workshops are designed to equip counselors with the tools they need to succeed in private practice, agency work, and beyond.

Licensure Guidance and Resources
  • Whether you're pursuing your LLPC or working towards full LPC licensure, we’ve compiled resources and guides to help you navigate the licensing process efficiently. Our easy-to-follow infographic on the Michigan licensing process provides step-by-step guidance to ensure you’re on the right track.

  • Collaborations with Michigan Universities and Colleges
    • The committee actively collaborates with Michigan's academic institutions to support counseling conferences, student initiatives, and training programs. We’re here to help future counselors gain the skills, knowledge, and support they need as they enter the mental health field.​​​

Meet the Committee Chair

Dr. Elizabeth M. Teklinski, PhD, LPC, NCC, NPT-C


Dr. Teklinski is a Certified and Licensed Neuropsychotherapist, trained by Dr. Gabor Maté and other prominent experts, with specializations in neurodiversity, EMDR, trauma-informed care, and integrative mental health. She brings years of experience in 'Incident-To' billing and Medicare compliance, as well as a commitment to holistic healthcare integration. Her upcoming textbook, Medicare Post-2024: The Mental Health Counselor’s Comprehensive Manual to 'Incident-To' Billing, and "Ask Me Anything: Medicare Masterclass" will be a valuable resources for counselors navigating new Medicare policies.

Volunteering and Community Outreach Opportunities – 

We welcome MMHCA members to volunteer with the Education and Outreach Committee! Volunteers will play a key role in developing educational resources, supporting advocacy efforts, and helping to shape the future of mental health counseling in Michigan.

Infographic Series

We are rolling out a series of infographics covering key topics, such as the Pathway to Counseling Licensure in Michigan, Counseling Compact, Incident-To billing, and more, to make complex information accessible and easy to understand.​
